Fr
Tandy had
set up a school for poor girls adjoining his church, with
a Hannah Young in charge. Fr. Tandy had seriously
considered founding his own community of Sisters but
eventually decided to look to Chartres
for help instead.

The
auxiliary bishop of the Midlands District, Nicholas
Wiseman (later became first Archbishop of Westminster)
wrote to Fr. Tandy saying:
“I
know the sisters of
Chartres well.
They are just the Sisters for you.”
